The Gold Dust Twins from China Grove, NC go fight and win in 1976. Ricky "Flash" Smith won by a 2nd round TKO against Hank Farrah leading The Charlotte Warhawks to victory over The Florida Flyers.
This event was promoted by Darrell Wilson at the Benton Convention Center in Winston Salem on April 5, 1980. The event was sanctioned by Kyokushinkai. Gary Basinger, Ricky and Randy's first karate teacher, won by a unanimous decision over Ricky Bailey scoring dozens of sidekicks which was Gary's trademark kick. This film is dedicated to him and his wonderful family, Debbie, Candice, and Brandon. May Gary's spirit live on through his lineage of teachers and students!
In 1976 the Gold Dust Twins travel to Tampa, Florida to keep up their point karate ratings in the Southeast. This film is unedited raw footage filmed by Sam Hopkins. It is dedicated to our dad who was the ultimate karate parent. He was proud of his twin boys. Appearing in the film is our dad (Gene Smith), Earl Ornsby, Joe Corley, Bill Wilson (RIP), and middleweight world champion, "Superfoot" Bill Wallace! Let's go back to the good ole days, when karate was breaking loose and The Gold Dust Twins were building their brand with satin red and blue uniforms!
